The Danish hi-tech manufacturer Lantic Systems, renowned for developing high end integrated entertainment systems, has designed a remote control in pure gold. It is probably the world’s most expensive remote control on the market – at a price in excess of US $55000, which compared to the standard remote control retailing from US $1050.

The new remote control called Gold RC1 was shown at the METS 2007 Exhibition in Amsterdam, Holland, which is the world’s biggest marine equipment trade show. Inspired from the famed RC1 remote control from Lantic Systems, the Gold RC1 touts the same sleek make and cool metallic finish and ease of use.

The Gold RC1 offers control over TV/video/DVD, music/CD, internet, e-mail, CCTV, burglary alarm, lights, curtains, air-conditioning and surveillance of navigation systems etc. First orders for the gold remote control have already been placed and they will start shipping the product from December 2007.

Balmuda Highwire LED desk lamp

Looking for a stylish desk lamp to complement you sexy desktop? BALMUDA design, well-known for producing simple and stylish products, has unveiled Highwire, a LED desk lamp which for the first time emits enough light for practical use. They claim it to be the brightest LED desk lamp in the world boasting an incredibly long life span.

Generally, your desktop needs around 300-700 Lux of light, but the Highwire produces more than 1,000 Lux so that you can work with ease. Strikingly, it is able to retain 70% of its original light output even after 50,000 hours. The color emitted by Highwire matches the color of a computer display therefore, the display is not distorted. The light coming from Highwire does not include infrared rays and so emits less heat. The Highwire light gradually brightens when turned on and dims when turned off, thanks to a slow start and stop mechanism. There are two models available, named Highwire 1100 and Highwire 1300, priced at $630 and $660 respectively.

Packard Bell introduces New Compasseo 700-series GPS

Packard Bell’s latest trio of Compasseo navigators aren’t likely to thrill any Americans, but for those camped out on the other side of the pond, you could certainly find some utility here.

The flagship model in the 700-series (the 780 T+) sports a 4.3-inch LCD, 400MHz CPU, 2GB of SDRAM, a battery good for around three hours, NAVTEQ maps covering all of western Europe, speed camera alerts, TrafficLive Plus, built-in media player, a SiRFstarIII GPS chipset and a MMC / SD expansion slot.

As for the 750 T+, it steps it down by only including 256MB of SDRAM and maps that cover just the UK / Ireland, while the low-end 750 strips away the live traffic support. We’re not seeing any hard pricing details just yet, but word on the street has the forthcoming trifecta arriving soon for £129.99 and up.

Asus R700 GPS unit back in September

We first got to know the Asus R300 and R700 GPS units back in September, but now Asus is finally ready to spill the rest of the sordid details on its well-specced R700 model. The Asus R700 runs a 4.3-inch touchscreen, with RDS / TMC traffic info, a hands-free Bluetooth kit, microSD port and all the trimmings inherent in Windows CE 5.0 — including a lovable collection of media playback codecs. There’s text-to-speech built in for reading street names, but the real twist comes from the ability to vocalize your text messages over Bluetooth. This model will be hitting Europe in December with a set of 3D maps and iGO 8 software for 400-500 Euro ($586-$732 US).
