More strange and wonderful Japanese gadgetry - this time from Thanko, which has launched this MP3 Clock.

Yes, this is no ordinary clock, despite looks to the contrary. Those bells are speakers, ready to blast out digital sounds. You can hook up it up to PC to transfer your tunes or you can go with one of the animal calls or sound effects that come with it. Even better, if you record your own voice, you can shout at yourself to get up in the morning.

And it tells the time, just like an old-fashioned wind-up. This is Japan only right now - and good value too with a price tag equivalent to £13. If it comes over here, I’ll be at the front of the queue.

LG Philips Bendy Screen

lge-paper.jpg

They call it e-paper, but in reality it is probably neither one nor the other. But whatever it is called, it is most defiantly a next generation display screen. Being flexible it means that there are so many more possibilities for this to be introduced into, something like this if it works as good as they say it will, we can expect to see new ideas for computing and communications.

The brilliant people in the labs of LG Philips in South Korea have been working on this for some time, in fact the concept is not entirely new, we have seen various other electrical manufacturers come up with the same idea, but not on this scale. The LG Philips version is a mere 0.3 mm thick and is just under 40 cm’s from the top corner to the bottom, which puts it right into the laptop market.

The questions that need answering is what sort of resolution can we expect, they say that it will display just under 4100 colors. However it is still early days on this and no doubt we will be seeing many others pop up before we ever actually see any practical use of one, there are no immediate plans to put this into production or any mention of what product this is going to be integrated into.

A few days back, we were talking about some heftily priced luxury speakers and now, we have another one that makes a smashing entry to the list. Proclaim Audio’s DMT-100 speakers have been designed for those true audiophiles who want the best from their speakers.

The patent pending speakers are balanced on high-grade aluminum and stainless steel stand. The integrated technology called driver manipulation allows the users to move the arms and adjust the height of the speakers accordingly to listen to the crisp quality sound. The audiophile stereo speakers feature external crossover instead of internal ones as to deliver the just right acoustic environment in the room. The alien-styled DMT-100 speakers are available in an array of color options, including white with black hardware and the tempting royal purple with satin aluminum hardware. They aren’t cheap as the price tag reads $26,000.
