Sony Ericsson W660i Announced

March 14th, 2007 admin Posted in Mobile News No Comments »

Sony Ericsson today announced the W660i - a classic-design 3G Walkman phone available in Record Black and Rose Red. w660.jpg

Like several of the latest Walkman phones, the W660i features TrackID. If users ever need to identify a piece of music that they don’t recognise, simply record a few seconds of the track, either via the microphone or by tagging a clip straight from the phone’s FM Radio, and TrackID will send the clip to the Gracenote Mobile MusicID database. This quickly identifies the track, the artist and album and relays the information back to the W660i.

The W660i can store up to 470 full-length songs (in eAAC+ format) on the 512 MB Memory Stick Micro (M2) supplied. As collections grow, consumers can expand the memory as needed and, by way of example, a 1 GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) will hold up to 1,000 tracks.

As well as high speed music download and web surfing, the W660i can deliver RSS feeds straight to the phone’s desktop to keep users up-to-date on the latest news and gossip. It also packs a 2.0-megapixel camera and Picture Blogging capability, allowing users to capture that picture and upload it instantly to their personal blog site - all at 3G speed.

The W660i is a UMTS 2100 and GPRS 900 / 1800 / 1900 device and will be available in selected markets from Q2 2007.

Samsung Boosts Cell Phone Memory to 8 GB

March 12th, 2007 admin Posted in Mobile News No Comments »

Samsung Electronics announced today that it has begun shipping samples of an 8 GB memory chip to major mobile electronics manufacturers - the highest density embedded flash memory developed to date.

Samsung’s high-density moviNAND memory solution consists of four 50-nanometer, 16 Gigabit NAND flash memories, a high-speed MultiMediaCard (MMC) controller and associated firmware. It can store up to 2,000 songs or enough map data to implement global positioning system (GPS) and points of interest for the entire western world. In addition, it can also be used with removable media cards to permit virtually unlimited memory expansion.

Because Samsung’s moviNAND allows NAND flash to be instantly accessed through a standardized MMC interface, manufacturers who use the new memory solution can develop mobile phones more quickly and at less cost than with raw MLC NAND components soldered into a handset.

While providing twice the capacity and provides double the performance of the 4 GB version, Samsung’s moviNAND is 10-20 percent smaller than other flash-based embedded memory card solutions. The new moviNAND also processes data at 52 megabytes per second, using the industry’s fastest multimedia card interface.

Samsung’s moviNAND solution provides high-density, high-speed, low-noise interference and increased security, making it an attractive storage solution for mobile handsets with high content services such as music phones and personal navigation. Moreover, increasing industry demand for secure and stable data is driving greater adoption of embedded data storage solutions.

Samsung’s moviNAND memory observes the eMMC standard jointly developed by JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) and MMCA (MultiMediaCard Association) for embedded flash memory applications. Widespread industry support for MMCA standardized card technology underscores the potential for broad industry acceptance of the new moviNAND solution. Samsung expects the market for moviNAND to reach an accumulated sales volume of $4 billion by 2010.

Samsung plans to begin mass producing its 8 GB moviNAND in the second quarter of this year. The high-density solution, which is based on Samsung’s advanced monolithic high-density NAND technology, will expand Samsung’s line of moviNAND memory from 512 MB to 8 GB.

AT&T today introduced a dark ruby-colored version of the BlackBerry Pearl and a crimson variant of the Treo 680.57354-1.jpg
The red BlackBerry Pearl’s stylish exterior measures just 4.2″ x 1.97″ x 0.57″, weighs only 3.1 ounces and includes the supple and responsive trackball that makes vertical and lateral scrolling fast and easy. It’s packed with such features as a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, multimedia capabilities and an expandable memory slot along with easy-to-use phone, email and browser applications. The unique “push-based” BlackBerry service gives users synchronized access to both personal and corporate email accounts with attachment viewing, and the ability to manage multiple email accounts while on-the-go.
The red BlackBerry Pearl also includes optional services such as Push-To-Talk and GPS-based wireless navigation services from TeleNav, Inc.
The crimson Palm Treo 680 device is a compact, full-featured mobile phone with an MP3 player, digital camera, camcorder and video player. The Treo 680 includes a built-in QWERTY keyboard that gives users the ability to easily compose and reply to email, edit documents and use a messaging application that displays text-messaging conversations as “threaded chats,” similar to IM. It supports a variety of email platforms, including Good Mobile Messaging from Motorola Good Technology Group and Cingular Xpress Mail.
Like their siblings, the red BlackBerry Pearl and crimson Treo 680 have quad-band capabilities. Both can be used in more than 13,000 cities and towns across the U.S. and along some 40,000 miles of major highways, as well as abroad in more than 190 countries for phone calls and in over 125 countries to access data.
