Well it may not be the high-definition EyeToy HD IP webcam that gamers had been hoping for, but Sony has finally announced the (first?) official EyeToy for PS3, called simply the PlayStation Eye. With an array of four microphones, two zoom levels, and capture rate as high as 120fps, the Eye promises to deliver unprecedented cam-enhanced gameplay, although the VGA video resolution (and that’s at ‘only’ 60fps) will probably nonetheless be a disappointment to some. Bundled in with the not-yet-priced package will be EyeCreate editing software, which allows users to add different effects to their content as well as record footage using time-lapse and slow-mo settings, among others. No word yet on other specs (still shot res?) or compatible games, either, but we imagine that a lot more info will trickle out as the Eye’s planned summer release date grows nearer.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which black high def console is the 1337est of them all? We know some people were bummed that the Xbox 360 didn’t get to compete in the 2006 Engadget Awards with the PS3 and Wii (hey, it was launched in 2005!), but now’s your chance to square off the two most expensive game consoles around. So who’s gonna take it, Sony’s piano black PlayStation 3, or Microsoft’s matte black Xbox 360 Elite?

JoyTech PowerGrip battery pack for PSP

April 20th, 2007 admin Posted in Gaming No Comments »

PocketGamer have managed to get their hands on JoyTech’s new battery charger solution for the PSP. JoyTech have produced a unit which is primarily a rechargeable battery pack designed to prolong your PSP playtime when you’re beyond reaching distance of a power socket.

Yet its design cleverly enables a further four functions: namely, a screen protector, a sunshield, a ‘comfort grip’ option and movie viewing stand.

Installation is simple, with the PowerGrip quickly attaching itself to the top side of the PSP with the aid of two screws driven into the two holes either side of the USB output. It’s a firm fixing (though care should be taken not to overtighten the connection), which then enables the unit to rotate around its attachment in order to fulfil its various functions.

When flipped over the front of the PSP, the handheld’s lovely screen is protected by the PowerGrip’s hard (albeit cheap) plastic backing (and in contact with its stiff foam interior lining to prevent damage).
