Top 5 Gadgets To Ask Santa For

We’re in that part of the year now when it’s hard not to anticipate the end of December, with it’s heavy meals, heavy snow, heavy family drama, and heavy gift demands. Gadgets are always a winner on Christmas morning, so let’s begin deciphering where to spend your money. There are five technological marvels that, if your budget allows for it, will make great holiday gifts:

iPhone 4S

With a Dual-core Apple 5 processor charging its pistons, the 4S is a considerable upgrade on the 4. Though the price is higher, so too is the number of megapixels (8), frames per second (30) you get in the camera, and dimensions (1080p) you get with the video recorder. This all adds up to a smartphone with more power, more capability, better tools, and better resolution. Also, it happens to be perfectly shaped for a surprise stocking stuffer.

Kinect

This motion sensing game console took the world by storm last year, earning it a Best Device award. Not only is this gadget an all-in-one media tool–allowing video conferencing, gaming, Internet access, and television streaming—it’s the first ever hands-free gaming system. It has also found applications in the real world, in robotics as well as in operating rooms. Microsoft doesn’t appear to be letting off the gas with this product, and while we can only imagine what lays in store for future upgrades, the original Kinect will still make for a fabulous under-the-tree find.

iPad 2

With a smart cover, a sleeker, thinner look, and a veritable treasure trove of apps, the iPad 2 deserves every bit of the attention it’s getting. You could kick a field goal through the price range though, so be sure you know what model you’re buying before you walk into the store.

Barnes and Noble Nook Reader

In addition to being one of the best basic e-readers on the market, with access to the entire Barnes and Noble library, this device also provides a ‘Color’ version with a fair number of apps, Internet access, and an abundance of normal tablet features, such as a calendar and Flash. If you’ve got a tech-friendly bookworm in the family, this is the way to go for electronic reading.

Nintendo 3DS

The portable 3D console includes augmented reality games, 3D movie and video streaming, and soon all of the programming offered by Hulu Plus. Not bad for a device that fits in your hand.

So you’ve got your list of gadgets. Check it twice (while checking your bank account and the Anywho white pages for the nearest electronics outlets) and just remember not to fall down the chimney—these gifts are delicate!
